Greenpeace UK CRM Requirements

HOW TO | Projects | Tools & Techniques

Greenpeace CRM team

For the last 6 weeks I've been working with a team of 7 Greenpeace UK staff to refine the objectives and prioritise the requirements for a constituent relationship management system GPUK plans to implement (we'd originally planned to spend 5 weeks on this activity but made the decision to spend more time on the requirements definition piece).

This week, we're making the final revisions to our list of prioritised functional requirements and must-have non-functional requirements, at which point I'll post them here and solicit your feedback and recommendations — GPUK already has a centralised (but offline) supporter data warehouse they run reports from using Cognos; what they're looking to do now is implement a CRM system that integrates what they already have with their website, which they'll be migrating to Drupal in parallel.

More later :)

UPDATE: this project is on hold until some resourcing issues can be worked out (and until then, I'm not able to post the requirements list mentioned above).

UPDATE 2: I'm no longer working on this project, although it will be continuing (I believe my friend and colleague Sue Fidler will be working with GPUK to complete the next phase of work).

Hey Rob, check out this non-profit using Salesforce.

I went to a Salesforce meeting in Vancouver here last week. It should definitely be possible to program a "connector" between Salesforce and Drupal.

Of course, I would also recommend checking out CiviCRM and SugarCRM. CiviCRM is not very mature yet, but is fully integrated with Drupal.

Hi, Boris! Thanks for the link - I'll check it out, along with CiviCRM and SugarCRM. What about Democracy In Action and Drupal - any experience with integration there?

DIA and Drupal - I have someone I know who is interested in integration between DIA and Drupal. I haven't looked into the project much yet, but would be interested in what you find and/or collaboration on creating a link between them.

Greggles - I'll post everything I find out here and keep in touch if it turns out DIA makes the most sense for Greenpeace. Know of any other CRM systems that integrate well with Drupal? I'll post more on the GPUK situation once we've completed our requirements phase and start looking at options, but I'm keen to start talking with people about what CRM product or combinations of products they've worked with NGOs to integrate with Drupal :)

Hey Rob:

I'm the lead developer for CiviCRM, so am a bit biased. We have a few tech folks in Canada using CiviCRM for greenpeace related activities (http://kleercut.net/en/). You might want to get a review and feedback from them about CiviCRM. We are also being used by metamute (http://crm.metamute.org) which is in your neck of the woods, so u might want to check with them also.

We obviously are a new entrant into the non-profit/advocacy CRM space, but have a few great things going for us, including being completely open source and an awesome community. Check our mailing lists (http://lists.civicrm.org) for the quality and depth of the conversations and also our wiki for other documentation (http://wiki.civicrm.org/). We believe in a release early/release often philosphy. Just about to release 1.5 and planning the feature set for 1.6 currently

We'll be glad to help you out in your decision making process :) Feel free to ask any questions etc.

Thanks, Lobo! I'll definitely check in with the Kleercut campaign folks, the people at Metamute, and be in touch :)
